Do you ever walk into the grocery store with your phone out looking at a recipe? You got your buggy and your list ready to get all the ingredients. You can’t make any food without adding some sort of spice for flavor. This brings me to the country of Grenada, which is a island of the Caribbean who is well known for their spices. It is referred to as the island of spices. If you are traveling to Grenada, as soon as you land there you are advised to go to the spice market and try the following spices: turmeric (saffron), bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. Grenada makes nutmeg and mace crops and is one of the worlds largest exporter. Gouyave nutmeg processing station is a great place to tour while visiting Grenada. Here, you can see how the spices are grown. If you are looking at somewhere to stay to get the best “Grenada spice experience” then your best bid would be to stay at the Spice Island Beach Resort. Many people come to this resort, because it’s considered the best one in Grenada. There has also been a high number of couples that come here to get married or spend their honey moon here. In my opinion, I can definitely see why Grenada is referred to as the island of spices. Their culture is centered around spices, they even have places to tour and try their spices.

I’m doing my research
paper on an island called Grenada from the Caribbean. Grenada is known for
their spices and refer as the land of spices. If you’re from the united states,
you may ask why do they refer to Grenada as the island of spices? The answer to
that is that Grenada culture center around spices. In my research paper I will
be talking about why people come to Grenada and what are some places to visit
in Grenada. Grenada is a mix race. As soon as you land in Grenada they advise
you to go to the spice market at its busiest hours early in the morning. While traveling
to the island of spice you must try the following spices turmeric (saffron),
bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and all spice (pimento). Grenada makes
nutmeg and mace crops and is also one of the largest exporters. Gouyave nutmeg
processing station is a place where all the spices are made at. They allow visitors
in for a tour to see how all the spices are being made. If you are looking for
someone were to stay at in Grenada, you should stay at the spice island beach
resort. Many people come to this resort cause it’s the best one in Grenada and it’s
a five-star hotel. This resort is great for couples to have their wedding at
and a wonderful place to stay for a honeymoon. So that’s your answer all these
places reflect the reason why Grenada is refer as the island of spices. What I may
research next about Grenada is how much money does they make from selling
spices.

"Little Cog-Burt" and "Cotton Candy" comparison
In “Cotton Candy” by Dora Alonso, there was a young
woman named Lola who sexual desires are prevented by her mother that won’t let
her grow up and be out on her own. Lola would name butterflies after men’s she would
like to be in a relationship with. Lola grows older with her sexual desire and
finds happiness as she watch animals mate at the zoo. Once she became an old lady
she herself young again in the mirror with an older black man.
In “Little Cog-Burt”, there was a little boy who cries
all the time. This boy is known as Cog-Burt. He is very small and is often seen
as a spoiled little kid. He had got a gift but doesn’t want it. Cog-Burt wants
a fairy on the top of the Christmas tree. The woman host a Christmas party and
think the fairy is so pretty that she couldn’t give Cog-Burt the ornament. She eventually
gives in and notice the little boy will never grow any larger.
In “Cotton Candy” the story was unclear at the end
weather Lola get happiness from a man, but in the “Little Cog-Burt” the little
boy want an item and he eventually get it. Both of these stories begin with
another person not giving them what they want. Lola mother won’t let her grow
and the hostess won’t give Cog-Burt the fairy. Later on in the story the little
boy do receives the item he ask for. At the end of “Cotton Candy” saw her
desire as a young woman again with black man but we not sure that they have any
sexual relation.
Lola and Cog-Burt are both shown as unattractive and unable to
communicate their desires. The authors Phyllis Shand Alfrey and Dora Alonso use
the element of being unattractive to show the reader that appearance matters. The
mothers in both story play a big part. One mother was helpful and the other was
to strict.

Teiyette and the Devil
Teiyette and the Devil is a short story written by a young
girl from Guadeloupean that is 17 years old. The young girl is afro- Caribbean based
of the text from the context. In my own opinion this story I read was very interesting
and it’s also was giving a very important message across. I believe the author
was trying to get the reader to understand just because some guy is good
looking doesn’t mean he is good for a female. The audience for this message is
young girls. The author shows this in many ways. One was describing the first
two guys the young girl came out and picked up the most beautiful of her silver
cups and gave the goat a drink. (Teiyette and the Devil) this give the reader a
picture of a goat, which is not good looking at all. The author continues to
add another man that approaches her as a pig. The author does this, so the
reader can see that the guy is fat like a pig. Another great thing that I like
how was how the author got this message across by poetry using: Repetition,
rhythm and a stronger message for example “oh, mama! Oh mama! Bel -air drum! The
man to whom you married me bel-air drum! Is terrible devil! Bel- air drum! He’s
eating me up! “(Teiyette and the Devil) by using repetition it stresses the
feelings that the characters have during that time. The readers can understand
what they are feeling at the time. You may see the words “bel-air drum! Are serval times in the short story this set
the rhythm or beat for the reader. The author created away for every reader to
read it the same way. I think this author did a great job on this story for
young girls read and learn from. It’s an entertaining story while getting a
point across.

Grenada & Carriacou
Grenada is well-known for
spices and is known as the spice Isle, being a major cause of nutmeg, cloves,
ginger, cinnamon and cocoa. Grenada is in North America and is a part of the Caribbean.
Grenada was populated by Arawak Indians when it was first found on August
15,1498 by Christopher Columbus, who named it Concepcion by the 18th century,
the Island was rename as Grenada. English is Grenada official language and they
also have two other languages they recognize, and they are English creole and French
creole. These languages reflect this Island history. A
creole language is a normal language developed from a mixture of different
languages. This language develops a means of communication between two or more
groups. The politics of Grenada take place in framework of a Parliamentary Representative
Democracy, the prime minister is the head of the government. The current prime
minister name is Keith Mitchell and has been the minster since 2013, he served
as Prime Minister from 1995 to 2008. Keith Mitchell is on his third term. Grenada is an independent common wealth realm.
The Capital is St. George their town is surrounded by a hillside of an old
volcano crater. Carriacou is the largest Island in the Grenadines. It is
located between Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean north of Trinidad and Tobago.
Carriacou is known as the land of reefs with shallow clear waters. The language
of Carriacou is English with a twist of pidgin and patois. The French were the
first European settlers in Carriacou around the 1740s. In 1763 it was surrender
a long with Grenada to the British.
The
original written records show back to 1656, suggest that the Kalinago named
Carriacou 'Kayryouacou’ meaning 'land surrounded by reef's.
