Grenada is well-known for
spices and is known as the spice Isle, being a major cause of nutmeg, cloves,
ginger, cinnamon and cocoa. Grenada is in North America and is a part of the Caribbean.
Grenada was populated by Arawak Indians when it was first found on August
15,1498 by Christopher Columbus, who named it Concepcion by the 18th century,
the Island was rename as Grenada. English is Grenada official language and they
also have two other languages they recognize, and they are English creole and French
creole. These languages reflect this Island history. A
creole language is a normal language developed from a mixture of different
languages. This language develops a means of communication between two or more
groups. The politics of Grenada take place in framework of a Parliamentary Representative
Democracy, the prime minister is the head of the government. The current prime
minister name is Keith Mitchell and has been the minster since 2013, he served
as Prime Minister from 1995 to 2008. Keith Mitchell is on his third term. Grenada is an independent common wealth realm.
The Capital is St. George their town is surrounded by a hillside of an old
volcano crater. Carriacou is the largest Island in the Grenadines. It is
located between Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean north of Trinidad and Tobago.
Carriacou is known as the land of reefs with shallow clear waters. The language
of Carriacou is English with a twist of pidgin and patois. The French were the
first European settlers in Carriacou around the 1740s. In 1763 it was surrender
a long with Grenada to the British.
The
original written records show back to 1656, suggest that the Kalinago named
Carriacou 'Kayryouacou’ meaning 'land surrounded by reef's.
